A Good Day

Today was kind of a big day. Emma had another ultrasound which showed no change in the size of her ventricles. This may not sound good, but it really is. She is now 5 days post tap and her ventricles have only decreased in size or stayed the same. Her head circumference has gone down and her soft spot has stayed soft. These are all things that, in the past, have increased at about 2-3 days post tap. Again, we don't want to get too excited or say too much for fear of 'jinxing' it all, but she will have another ultrasound on Monday without having a spinal tap before then. If it goes well, it could mean very good things for us!!!

Here she is sporting a mohawk. You gotta do something with all that ultrasound goop!

She also saw an occupational therapist today and a physical therapist yesterday. These are services that the hospital provides to children who may have had circumstances that would have physical or neurological effects. She got a great report from both. She has good muscle tone and is developmentally doing the things that she should be doing! This is very comforting. I think she is behaving appropriately, but it's nice to hear professionals validate your observations.

3 out 4 grandparents were there to visit today with number 4 (my dad) coming tomorrow. It's nice to have family with us to support us through difficult times, but it's even nicer when we have good news. Emma has enjoyed visiting with all of her family members and can't wait to see her Grandpa Birnie tomorrow!
