Life in the NICU

Today Emma had another 'lumbar puncture'. They took a good amount of fluid which they said looked much better than it did two weeks ago. That means that the infection should hopefully gone! She stops her antibiotics tonight so knowing the fluid looks better is comforting. They said she did well with it and slept through a lot of it. They put sucrose on her pacifier and basically turn it into a lollipop so that helps too! Hopefully she won't become a sugar addict! Although she has genetics working against her with me as her mother.

Yesterday, my mom came into town to see Emma and take care of me. The last fews days have been more difficult not knowing if the spinal taps ... sorry, lumbar pucntures ... are helping or if she will need surgery to place a shunt. We still don't know, but having my mom here helps to distract me from things I can't control, if only for a few moments.

Emma seemed very happy today and yesterday to be held by GiGi.

Despite all the nurses, doctors and tests, we do get to do a few typical parenting things. The nurses have a check list of things they have to teach us before we can go home.

Giving a bath is one of them.

We also get to put her in real clothes and not just the little white t-shirts the hospital provides.

Emma is a girly girl so of course she needs flowers and a bow.

One of our favorite nurse's children went to UCONN just like Jeremy so we put her in her UCONN onesie just for Danette.

Finally, one of my favorite little girls from Kids U (and her grandmother) gave Emma this shirt. Pretty in Pink!

I can't wait to get her home and put on her really cute clothes that I'm afraid to take to the hospital!
